Former Husker Mark Pelini Killed in Indiana Crash

Former Cornhusker Mark Pelini was killed in a two-vehicle car crash that claimed three lives on the night of Sunday, Oct. 2. He was 31 years old.

At approximately 7:55 PM, Indiana State Police Dispatch received word of a serious crash on the Indiana Toll Road involving two vehicles. Investigation found that an SUV that Pelini was driving hit a deer, crossed the center median, and then collided with a pickup truck.

Pelini and his passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck and backseat passenger were taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The front seat passenger, however, was also pronounced dead on the scene.

Pelini was a center for the Cornhuskers from 2010 to 2014, when his uncle Bo Pelini was head coach.

The University of Nebraska issued a statement, saying, “On behalf of the Nebraska Football program, our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends & teammates of former Husker lineman, Mark Pelini.
