A one month old baby’s life was recently saved by a couple of hero policemen in Kansas City. And it was all caught on their body cams. What happened was that they responded to an emergency call about the baby not breathing. They got there before the EMS responders. Realizing that every second counted, Officer Richard DuChaine began CPR in this very tiny baby girl. When I saw the video the first time, the baby didn’t look real. She looked like a toy doll. She was that unresponsive. After chest compressions and then back thrusts, she started breathing again.
The whole time, the officers were calm and were relying on training. The whole time, you can hear DuChaine saying, “Come on.” And when when the baby started breathing again, a relieved, “There you go”. They got her to the hospital where she got some help breathing for a while. That poor kid was born premature. She had stopped breathing because she has the RSV virus.
