While still 48-hours away, the possibility of extreme weather conditions are shaping up for a good portion of Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa. Snow, cold and high winds are forecast to combine for the coldest windchills since 1996 in the area.
The latest National Weather Service update late Monday afternoon is indicating snow, possibly heavy at times, could start in the Lincoln area Wednesday afternoon. There could be some mixed precipitation ahead if the colder air stays further to the North and West.
But by later Wednesday into Thursday, snow possibly 6 to 8 inches is possible along with strong winds for 40 mph and gusts to near 50 mph are likely. Plunging temperatures will push wind chills to 30 to 40 degrees below zero. Blizzard conditions are possible for 36-48 hours with extremely cold temperatures and wind chills into the weekend.
