Every year, with freezing weather I pull out the heavy winter coat. When I do, I’m faced with a same perplexing question. Why do they make coats with two zippers at the bottom? I’ve never had to use the second one. In fact, it always becomes a problem because you can’t zip up the top one unless they’re lined up with each other. And I mean, laser sighted, chalk line, down to the millimeter precision.
And without fail, some threads get loose and gunk up everything between the two within 2 months of buying the coat.
Is it meant to be some kind of special escape tool in case you can’t unzip the first one? Is it an encouragement zipper? Maybe it’s there when the main zipper is too scared to go all the way up to tell it, “It’s cool. I’m right behind you.”
I also have a light jacket that has 2 zippers. 9 times out of 10, I’ll zip the main one and a few minutes later, the other works its way up and unzips the jacket from the bottom making the jacket pointless. About the only answer I can find online is that the 2nd zipper lets you loosen up your coat from the bottom so you can sit more comfortably.
