I’m pretty sure I’ve shared this before but as I’m the Owner, President and CEO of Over Thinkers Anonymous and still fret over things all the way from elementary school, it continues to bother me that my youngest nephew told me a couple years ago that I am I liar because I never tell him he sucks at things. I go to just about everything he does, but I always cheer him on, tell him ‘good job’, ask if he had fun when whatever that event is is over, and give him a hug and tell him I love him and move on to the next thing.
My answer to me not telling him that he sucks at things was that first of all, I see a kid I love having fun. Also, it’s not my job to tell you that you suck at things. There’s plenty of people in life to tell you that you suck and not only is that not what I see, but I don’t need to be one of those people. That’s not what Aunt Jill is here for. But it still bothers me so much that that’s what he thinks adults are supposed to do. So, when I see a post like this, it just hits me right in the heart. Not that I expect my nephew to ever look back as he gets older and realize that this is what I was doing, but…it just makes me appreciate those who do those little things to make someone feel good without even knowing it.
