If you can’t afford a lawyer, a robot will be provided by the court to defend you. The company called DoNotPay has developed an A.I. that will actually be representing people in court next month against speeding tickets. It’s also not really a robot. They’ll have the defendants wear special ear buds which the A.I. will speak to them through. It will give them instructions on how to reply to the judge. They’re also considering taking on an eviction case.
Obviously, law firms are not happy about this. And it’s not legal to allow an A.I. to be a part of the proceedings everywhere. DoNotPay says the whole point of this is to be able to get decent representation for people who can’t afford lawyers.
Here’s a demonstration of it in action.
