Ever since I was a little boy who watched “2,000 Leagues Under the Sea” as the Sunday night movie on TV, I’ve been fascinated by underwater creatures. It started with the scene where the giant squid attacks the ship. That aside, divers off he coast of Japan found themselves next to a fabled giant squid. And they stuck around to swim with it! Luckily they also filmed the giant squid. It’s amazing. The tentacles are at least three times as long as the man swimming next to them. It’s a one in a zillion diving find and opportunity. No one had even taken a picture of a living giant squid until 2004. Also, according to Mental Floss, there’s a bigger, nastier version of the giant squid living in the depths of the ocean. It has swiveling hooks on its tentacles to really latch an tear into its prey.
I’d probably be too scared to get up close and swim with the squid thanks to this scene and Kirk Douglas’s overly dramatic acting.
