M&Ms have already put out two new spots with Maya Rudolph as the new spokesperson. And, as expected, they’ve taken the situation in a comedic direction.
Quick recap. M&Ms came up with a couple new cartoon spokes candies and changed the shoes of the female ones. Certain people got upset because they felt it was too “woke”. M&Ms then said they’re going to quit using the spokes candies and go with Mya Rudolph.
The new spots are only 15 seconds. In one spot, Maya says all M&Ms will now come with a picture of her on them. She holds one up so we can see an M&M with her picture. On the other spot, Maya announces that they’re changing the name to Ma&Yas. That’s Ma, an ampersand, and Ya. It’s basically Maya. She even says so at the end of the spot saying, “It’s a play on my name.” for people who don’t get it. Because a lot of people really don’t get it. You can tell by reading some of the comments people have made at the Twitter account. Comments like, “You’d think companies learned from the disaster of New Coke. Enjoy crashing and burning.” And another that says, “This is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. Not everybody loves Maya.” Sometimes, it just takes some people longer to catch on to the joke. We’ll go with that.
