few weeks ago I talked about an artificial intelligence that was going to act as the lawyer for some people in court. Nothing huge. They were just fighting traffic tickets. But again, a computer was going to be their lawyer. I also mentioned that I didn’t think real lawyers were going to be too happy with it.
They weren’t. Multiple state’s bar associations have threatened litigation and law suits if the creator of the AI moves ahead with the February 22nd court appearance. Their argument is that lawyers have to be licensed to practice and the AI is not licensed. That would mean unauthorized practice of law and possible jail time. So, the creators have stopped the idea for now.
Maybe instead of a lawyer, they should program it to be a judge. Then get it a TV show on Hulu or TUBI. The bailiff could be a wise crackin’ robot with laser pistols. Oh, and instead of the usual kind people that come on these kinds of shows, it would only be scientists having disputes. I can see it now, “Your honor, Dr. Theros there owes me for the Bunsen burners he smashed when we broke up.”
