A coworker was trying to tell me that the real life bear that “Cocaine Bear” is based on on, ate 75 pounds of cocaine before it died. He told me that’s what Wikipedia said.
That sounded completely ridiculous to me. So I broke it down. The average lethal amount of coke is 1.5 grams for the average human. There are a 453.6 grams to a pound. Which, by the way, would be 34,020 grams, more than 20k times the amount lethal to a full grown human that weighs about the same as that bear.
The report that I’m inclined to believe is from Fox 5 in Atlanta. They say that the bear had 3 or 4 grams in its blood stream. They also note that the rest of the coke that was missing was probably eaten by other wildlife. So basically, it was a party in the woods that night. People think it might have been 75 pounds because there was a duffel bag, untouched, nearby with 74 pounds of coke in it.
That poor bear didn’t kill anyone either. He ate some coke and collapsed.
All that said, I still want to see “Cocaine Bear”. It looks like it’s a riot.
