A couple of days ago, a delivery service lost a friend’s passport because they delivered it to the wrong house. He’s supposed to move to Europe in a couple weeks. Passports and serious problems like that might be a thing of the past soon. Electronic gates in airports can allow people to forego meeting with customs and waiting to get stamped. These E-Gates use facial recognition, finger prints, or other bio information to check you out. You just walk through, get scanned, and be on your way. You do still need an electronic passport, but there’s no way that it’s getting lost by a delivery service.
They started testing the E-Gates in Mexico’s busiest airport last year and it was a huge success. So, I would guess they’ll start popping up all over the place soon. I know Tampa has had them for a couple of years. A few other place in the US might have some too.
