The new health fad is adding olive oil to coffee. Olive oil is wonderful and had many benefits. But I wouldn’t put it in coffee, simply because of the flavor factor. You’re just adding a greasy, really sharp green taste to coffee’s bitterness. And if you add cream and sugar, then you’re defeating the point of using olive oil. I suggest that if you want to make your coffee healthier, add in soluble fiber instead. If you get the Dextrin kind, it’s flavorless and completely dissolves. The Psyllium kind doesn’t dissolve well and is gritty. I use both every day; psyllium in the morning and at night with a glass of water and the dextrin dissolved into my protein shake for workouts. Speaking of, adding protein powder to your coffee is another healthy alternative. They come in many different flavors that taste great, including coffee flavor. The kind I use has zero sugar and no cholesterol.
However, if you want to drink olive oil, you could be like a friend of mine from Italy who drinks a shot of pure olive oil every morning. He swears by it. Or, use it as a substitute when cooking. I cut out butter and margarine 20 years ago and use olive oil for everything. It helped drop my bad cholesterol a lot.
