Lincoln Police Department (LPD) Northeast Team Station has been relocated to a newly renovated facility at 5201 “R” St.
Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird spoke at the debut of the new station on Friday saying, “[The station] will provide lasting benefits to both the community and Lincoln’s public safety professionals.” continuing, “The Lincoln Police Department’s new Northeast Team station represents a long-term investment in public safety for our community, this state-of-the-art facility supports our officers and LPD’s ability to serve our growing city.”
The move from their previous location at 4843 Huntington Avenue began in early March.
The City purchased the building for $2.5 million, using $1.25 million in re-appropriated LPD budget funds and $1.25 in seized asset funds. About $4.5 million in CARES Act funds were used to renovate the building.
LPD Assistant Chief Brian Jackson said, “With ample off-street parking, updated facilities, a storm hardened shelter to protect staff and continue operations, this station is also designed for state-of-the-art technology for officers and our communications staff…Its is geographically located near high volume call areas and incorporates many features advantageous for an employee of the Lincoln Police Department.”
Councilman James Michael Bowers said the new station strengthens LPD’s connection to the residents the department serves.
“The community policing model used by LPD relies on strong relationships with the community, and investing in this new station is another opportunity to further those relationships,” Bowers said.
