By Mark Vail Mar 19, 2023 | 6:42 AM

…RED FLAG WARNING WILL BE IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 9 PM CDT THIS EVENING FOR WIND AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY IN EASTERN NEBRASKA…

The Warning in Nebraska includes the following Counties: Thurston, Antelope, Pierce, Wayne, Boone, Madison, Stanton, Cuming, Burt, Platte, Colfax, Dodge, Washington, Butler, Saunders, Seward, Lancaster, Saline, Jefferson and Gage.

Southwest winds at 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph combined with low Relative Humidity of 15 to 25 percent make for dangerous fire conditions.

Any fires that ignite may spread rapidly and exhibit extreme fire behavior. Use extreme caution if engaging in any activities that could start a fire. Outdoor burning is not advisable.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will be shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
