Thanks again to Planet Comicon for sponsoring the 90s at 9 and giving us a ton of tickets to give away. Jenny and I was there for the fun in Kansas City over the weekend. There were sooooo many people in really great costumes. AT one point I turned to Jenny and said that I feel like I’m looking more at the people than what’s in all the booths. Booths covered about everything. There were photo ops like these shots with the Storm Troopers and Madalorians. There was an area where you put on VR googles and fought zombies while everyone else could see what you’re seeing on monitors. You could buy light sabers, t-shirts, comics, and all sorts of memorabilia.
They also had rows of booths where the celebrities were taking pics and signing autographs. I had a press pass, but was warned not to try to get up close to the celebs and take pictures that way. I was supposed to hang back and take wide shots. That was impossible. There were so many people waiting in lines that you couldn’t see the booth. I think I caught a glimpse of Richard Dreyfuss’s face under a blue baseball cap. Elvira’s line was one of the longest. I did get a good look at Henry Thomas. He was the kid in “E.T.” I was able to see him because there wasn’t anyone in line for him. I felt bad for the guy. By the way, prices for pictures started at $40 for a wallet photo.
We did get a better view of Elvira at her symposium with Q and A. She’s still stunning at 71. Johnathan Frakes was doing one when we got there. William Shatner was Friday night. I couldn’t make it there until Saturday, so I missed that one. They also held a cosplay contest and a party Saturday night.
I’ll get more photos and video next year. This year, I was just kind of in awe about the whole thing and taking it in.
