I went 36 years between Journey concerts. The 1st time was during Steve Perry’s last hurrah as lead singer during the Raised On Radio tour in Lincoln back in the 80s. It was my very first big concert. The 2nd time was last Saturday at PBA. I was amazed at how much Arnel Pineda sounds like Perry. Arnel is the current lead singer for Journey. They discovered him on a Youtube video singing “Don’t Stop Believing”. He’s only 5’4” and I’m betting 3 feet of that is all lungs. He bounced all over the stage and went out into the audience. He’s 56 with the energy of a 25 year old. Toto sounded great too. We took some family and friends to the show. When we had dinner beforehand, we were all trying to remember what Toto songs we knew. The only one we could think of was “Africa”. Then, during the concert, we were all saying, “Oh yeah, I know that one too”.
As a kid, I heard Kasey Kasem announce that the Rolling Stones had been together longer than any other band. It was something like 18 years. This was Journey’s 50th anniversary tour. And they still sound great. It was a great night all around.
