You can get scammed while watching tv now. I’m not talking about falling for the Psychic Hot Line or some terrible product on an infomercial. If you have a smart TV, hackers can apparently get into it through the internet and block your service. Then they make a pop message saying your account has been blocked or something similar. It also gives instructions to go to a website or call a phone number in order to fix the issue. And from there, they start giving you instructions on how to send them money. So, yeah, a man can’t even watch a dragon incinerate an entire kingdom of dwarves without being interrupted by a crook.
Today was the first time I’d heard of anyone hijacking a TV set. But it’s connected to the internet and it was going to happen eventually. Needless to say, don’t give anyone control of your smart TV from somewhere else. Find the actual contact information for your service and contact them. And most of all, don’t buy bricks of gold and leave them on your porch if they ask. Don’t leave anything on your porch for some stranger you’ve never met.
