Lincoln Police are investigating a two vehicle crash at 44th and O Street around 8:00 Friday morning that sent a pickup truck through the playground fence at the Miles of Smiles Child Development Center.
The crash between the pickup and a silver Ford Focus happened as parents were dropping their kids off for the day and no one was on the playground at the time. “All children and staff were inside the building at the time and everyone is safe,” Miles of Smiles staff said in a message to parents.
Lincoln Police say the driver of the pickup was southbound on 44th Street and had a green light. The driver of the Ford Focus told police he was eastbound on O Street and couldn’t see the traffic light because of sun glare. He told police when he did see it, the light was red and too late to stop.
The T-bone crash forced the pickup driver to lose control and drive through the day care fence. No one in either vehicle were injured. Damage to the fence is estimated at $5,000.
