Sometimes, when I’m people watching and I see senior citizens walking by, I’ll make up background stories about them. It doesn’t normally involve being a bank robber. I bring it up because over in Missouri, Bonnie Gooch just got arrested for her 3rd bank robbery. Bonnie is 78 years old. Her 1st heist was way back in 1977. Then, I’m guessing that she settled down with a nice family and kids. But, she tried to rob another bank in Lee’s Summit, Kansas in 2020. Being a cute little old lady, she got off with probation for a year.
The third and most recent bank job was in Pleasant Hill. It was a mix of grandmotherly behavior and booze. Bonnie gave the teller a note that said she wanted 13,000 small bills. It also said, “Thank you. Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.” The only way it could have been nicer is if she had knitted a quilt with the letters sewn into it. Bonnie did get impatient. She banged on the counter telling the cashier to hurry. It wasn’t fast enough. Police caught her two blocks away, smelling strongly of alcohol.
Authorities say they’re looking to see if Bonnie has any special circumstances or needs special services.
