Semboku is a small town in Japan that had a bear problem. Asian Black Bears would wander into town, forage through trash cans, and threaten a few people. So, hunters set up traps outside of town to keep them out.
Then they put the bear meat into vending machines for people to buy and eat. You know, exactly what immediately comes to mind when you’ve got problems with bears.
I’ve spent some time in Japan. They put EVERYTHING in vending machines from hot tea to fresh seafood. So, why not bear meat? It comes in a small package as steaks. They cost about $17 each. They actually look kind of tasty. They say the meat is kind of tough. Nothing a little butter and grilling couldn’t fix.
A terrible joke popped in my head. All I’ll say is that the premise has Yogi Bear stealing a picnic basket then fining Boo Boo steaks inside.
Actually, Google “Bear Meat Recipe” sometime. You wouldn’t believe how many ways to cook it show up.
