The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says they have received several calls recently about criminals posing as one of their sergeants. “Calling up an individual saying they have a warrant, that they need to pay and they’re going to get arrested,” says Chief Deputy Ben Houchin.
In one case Houchin says the scammer told the caller “we know right where you are, you need to stop and put your hands on your head and we’re going to end up strip searching you.”
He says the callers ask for personal information and attempt to scare residents into paying bond on fake warrants. Houchin says they would never ask for money or credit card information.
LSO provides personal service for warrants and does not make phone calls.
