You ever been worried about a neighbor? Next door lives a middle aged woman who’s had heart health issues the past couple years. She lives alone. Her daughter’s family lives in Omaha. She also has a dog named Trixie that my wife loves talking to and petting. There have been times when we haven’t seen the neighbor for a couple weeks because she isn’t feeling well, but we knew she was doing okay because she’d let Trixie out in the yard.
The last couple weeks we hadn’t seen either of them. We figured she went to see her daughter. Then I was doing yard work Sunday, when it was really windy, and the neighbor’s front screen door came loose and was banging against the house. I went over and shut it, but as I walked up the driveway, I saw that her car was in the garage. I got concerned. I told Jenny and she thought maybe we should all the police for a welfare check. But then we thought they might have to bust a window to get in and what if the neighbor was on vacation or something and………. we just left it alone.
I went home for lunch today and there was the neighbor, her daughter, and little grand kids. I actually blew out a sigh of relief. And then I let her know that we’d been concerned. At first, she thought my concern was for the welfare of her house because I’d mentioned the door. I said, “No, we were concerned about you.” Turns out she WAS staying with her daughter.
Do you know how bad I would have felt if something had happened to her in her house and we hadn’t done something. My brain would overload wondering about all the “what ifs”. But now that I know she’s okay……….. I’m gonna hit her up for a few bucks to help trims all the trees hanging between our yards.
