There were some tense moments over the noon hour Thursday after a worker at Green Quest Recycling near 4th and J fell into a cardboard compactor.
LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman tells KLIN News when crews arrived they learned that the man fell down a chute that leads to the compactor. “It was a 16-foot-fall to the bottom and the machine was going at the time. They got it shut down as quickly as they could, but it had caught him in there with the cardboard.”
It took about 40 minutes to gain access to the machine and sort through the cardboard to get him out. She says the worker was conscious and talking to rescuers the entire time.
He was taken to the hospital to be treated, but the extent of his injuries is not known.
