Burger King in Thailand is serving a new kind of cheeseburger. It’s literally nothing but cheese, 20 slices, between two burger buns. As a man who loves cheese, I just have to say “Yuck”. People thought it was a joke at first, but BK got on Twitter and said it’s not. There are several pictures of this monstrosity. As one of our news people here asked, “Why?”
Here’s the most logical explanation I could think of. There’s zero cheese used in most Asian dishes. It’s just not used or even available. So, I’m guessing this is a gimmick using a novelty food item to the extreme to get notice and drive higher traffic through the restaurants. Even then though, who could eat that much cheese? Apparently everyone in Thailand. One BK stopped taking delivery orders so they’d have enough buns and cheese for walk in customers. Which is weird because people in Thailand are also known for eating healthy. There’s even a salmon katsu burger that’s a regular menu item.
The most cheese I use in any food is cheese enchiladas. But even then, I smother them in pork chili or tortilla soup to get other ingredients and beef or chicken involved. My grandma used to fix us cheese sandwiches: a slice of cheese with mayo on bread. Guh. Yeah, I know it’s just a grilled cheese (which I love) without the grilling, but it ain’t the same. And as much as I love Mac and Cheese, there’s a cheese overload/ tipping point where it just becomes gross.
