Bears and orcas have been singling people out for attacks recently. Now, dolphins are doing it. Four people were swimming at a beach in Japan recently when the normally fun and friendly creatures started ramming and biting them. They broke one guy’s ribs. Another man had bite marks across his arms. And two people later in the day were attacked. These were separate incidents at different times throughout the day.
The Japanese beach authorities put up some signs for people not to touch or approach the dolphins. We all know how humans treat signs. Several fountains in Lincoln have been shut down because people stepped past the signs that said, “No Swimming or Wading” and jumped right in.
Anyway, dolphins are big and strong. I did one of those “swim with dolphins” excursions. He swam with me holding his fin like I was nothing. I wouldn’t want to meet one in a dark alley. Could you imagine that? You’re just minding your own business, taking a short cut to get to your car and out walks an angry dolphin. He just lost his job at Sea World and has been drinking too much. He starts taunting you about how bad of a swimmer you are, then tells you to hand over all of your sardines or else. He’s just looking to take out his dolphin frustrations on anyone.
This isn’t from the Japan incident, but shows how angry dolphins can get.
