Fair food recipe – Fried Oreos

By Austin Michael Aug 1, 2023 | 6:55 PM

In celebration of all the city, county, and state fairs in August, I’m tracking down recipes for everybody’s favorite fair foods. And if they’re fried, all the better. Today it’s an easy one, Deep Fried Cookies. Imagine a warm Oreo with gooey filling inside of crispy breading. You just need oil, an egg, milk, confection sugar, pancake or biscuit mix, and the Oreos. Then do what comes naturally. By that I mean mix up the batter, dunk your Oreos in it, then drop in the hot oil for a couple minutes until golden brown.

This great as a snack when watching movies, have guests, and gaining a few extra pounds……… each cookie comes out being at least 100 calories. If you’re like me and can’t stop at 1 or 5, you’ll need to plan some extra cardio.

Ingredients

  • 18 Oreo cookies
  • Oil for deep-fat frying
  • 1 cup biscuit/baking mix or pancake mix
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup 2% milk
  • Confectioners’ sugar

Directions

  1. On each of eighteen 4-in. wooden skewers, thread 1 cookie, inserting pointed end of skewer into filling. Freeze until firm, about 1 hour.
  2. In a deep cast-iron skillet or deep fryer, heat oil to 375°. Place biscuit mix in a shallow bowl. In another bowl, combine egg and milk; whisk into biscuit mix just until moistened.
  3. Holding skewer, dip cookie into biscuit mixture to coat both sides; shake off excess.
  4. Fry cookies, a few at a time, until golden brown, 1-2 minutes on each side. Drain on paper towels. Dust with confectioners’ sugar before serving.
