The Newton American Legion Post 111 in Iowa might be able to get you a big discount on beer. They bought 400 cases of beer for RAGBRAI. RAGBRAI is the annual cycling event where people ride across Iowa. One thing cyclists really like to have at the end of a ride is a beer. Also, there was a record number of cyclists signed up this year. Hence, the 400 cases that the Newton American Legion was going to sell to fund raise.
They ended up only selling 13 cases. They spent $12,000 on beer and had 387 cases left over. That’s 4967.5 gallons of extra beer.
They’re checking to see if they can return some. I checked their web page, but it doesn’t say anything about all that beer. Although, it does show that they have a bar to serve members, so maybe they can unload it there. Maybe they can have a REALLY rowdy night. What would a bunch of 70+ year old guys do on a drunken night? I’m trying to imagine it in a “The Hangover” scenario with face tattoos and tigers.
