Does blue light filtering really work? Study results in blog.

You know those special glasses that filter out blue light? There are tons of commercials saying that cutting out blue light with various products is better for your eyes, cut down on migraines, and help you sleep better.

Not so much for any of those things according to a new study.

The study looked at the findings from 17 different trials where adults with blue light filtering lenses were compared to adults without. They wrote, “Based on the current best available evidence, there is probably little or no effect of blue-light-filtering lenses on best-corrected visual acuity [the ability to see shapes and details at a distance] compared with non-blue-light-filtering lenses.” In other words, it did nothing for their ability to see. They added that there wasn’t any evidence to support other claims.

There are also numerous eye doctors and other specialists that say they’re not surprised and that they pretty much don’t think blue filtering does anything special.

My electronic reader has an option to filter out blue light. It’ supposed to help me get to sleep easier. I’ve used it for a few years, but I can’t honestly say it helps anything. It’s not as bright which helps my wife get to sleep easier.
