Should a song that’s been put together by AI be allowed to win a Grammy or other awards? A couple of months ago, somebody created a song called “Heart On My Sleeve” that sounded like Drake. It wasn’t. it was a case where the vocals were made to sound like him by using AI. Then it got out on the internet and even streaming services, but has since been pulled. Even so, the guy who wrote the lyrics and then created the song using AI is submitting it for a Best Rap Song and Song Of The Year Grammys. The guy behind it, known only as Ghostwriter, is claiming that this song and others were written and recorded by humans who tried to match the artists way of singing before using AI to generate the voice.
Still sounds like a cheat to me. And surely the Academy Of Recording Artists would see it as a con too, yes? No. CEO Harvey Mason Jr says, “As far as the creative side, it’s absolutely eligible because it was written by a human.” But, he added that the rules say that a song must be available nationwide through stores and streaming in order to be eligible.
