There’s a lot of speculation that the Duke boys might be coming back. John Schneider, Catherine Bach, Tom Wopat, and some other original cast members of “The Dukes Of Hazzard” were all at the Gallatin Comic Con recently. Catherine was asked if there’s a reboot in the works. She simply replied, “Anything is possible”.
I never liked “The Dukes Of Hazzard”. I was in grade school when it came out. I remember it being on tv while I was playing a friend on one of those magnetic football games where the players just shook around a lot. He wouldn’t change the channel. He was into that show, being a trucker like his dad, and Glen Campbell. I couldn’t explain why I didn’t like it back then. I mean, I was only 8. But I could have told you I thought it was dumb. But, I was into Monty Python and programming computers at the time, so………….
That said, I can’t see any way it comes back like it was. Not with a car called the General Lee and a confederate flag on the side. Not with women walking around in short shorts being ogled by authority figures. Not with a corrupt politician who loves money more than anything else. Well, maybe the corrupt politician thing. My point being, even though they are all over the top caricatures, I could see it getting shut down by cancel culture in less time that it’d take the General Lee to jump a river bed.
