One person’s thrift store donation is another’s hundred thousand dollars.
Jessica Vincent in Virginia bought a vase at a Goodwill store. It’s not ugly, but it doesn’t look all that fantastic to me. It has green and red swooshes and kind of looks like it might be a special edition bottle for Smirnoff Vodka. Jessica paid $3.99 for it. If I’d seen it, I would have thought that was too much.
Jessica just sold it at an auction for $107,000. She noticed that it’s markings meant it was made in Italy. After some research she found out that it was made by a famous Italian glass company. Turns out some famous architect made it with the company in the early 1940s and that it’s very rare. So, she auctioned it off and said, “ I really need the money more than the vase”.
The best purchase I ever made at a thrift store is a small blender, like one of those magic bullet blenders. Five bucks and it’s great for chopping up small amounts of stuff I use in recipes. I’ve had it for 5 years and it still works great.
