I had a little extra time over Christmas weekend. So, I tried boiling bacon.
We were going to be in Grand Island and then Shelton on Christmas day, but came back to Lincoln on Christmas eve because off all the blizzard warnings. Jenny and I were snowed in with the whole day to ourselves. We opened presents, watched Barbie, and then it was only 10:30am.
About a month ago, I wondered if anyone had ever cooked bacon by boiling it like on the classic 80s movie “Better Off Dead”. Lo and behold, there are instructions galore on the internet to do it. I’ve been wanting to try one out since.
Place bacon in a deep pan, cover with water, boil. It’s supposed to end up crispy. It doesn’t. In fact, it starts looking like colorless chum. After about 10 minutes, I pulled the bacon out of the water and put it in a pan of hot olive oil for about a minute. That did the trick.
Did I mention that I also got 3 chef’s hats and an apron for Christmas? I may have gotten them in recognition of my astounding advances in cooking and ground breaking recipes like “Chocolate Mac & Cheese”………….. or as a sarcastic gift. I choose to believe it was for the groundbreaking thing I said.
