I’m wishing a wonderful retirement to my friend John Chapo from the Lincoln Children’s Zoo. Today was his last day after being the man behind the scenes and the public face of The Lincoln Children’s Zoo for decades. Under his care, the zoo has received national attention and recognition. Through zoo school, he has inspired multiple generations into caring about nature and our animal companions.
I’ve had the honor of knowing John for 20 years. From his visits to my old morning show to Jenny and I volunteering at the zoo and through the zoo’s expansion and all the special events, John has become a great friend and the Lincoln Children’s Zoo has become an integral part of our lives.
John’s gone above and beyond for us too. He got ordained and ministered our wedding which he helped us do at the zoo. He’s taken care of our pets while we were away. And earlier this year, he ministered our vow renewals, again, at the zoo. 
John’s presence will be missed by visitors, the animals, and all the employees at the Lincoln Children’s Zoo. I think I can also speak for the community that his appearances on radio, tv, and all around Lincoln will be missed as well.
Enjoy your retirement John. You earned it.
