One of my nephews from Grand Island had a basketball tournament in Lincoln over the weekend. He, his brother, and his dad crashed at our house Saturday night. Before coming over, they ate at a sushi restaurant and put the leftovers in our fridge.
We were all in the kitchen Sunday morning. While the rest of us at pancakes and bacon, the older brother, who’s 14, decided he wanted to eat the leftover sushi. I jokingly asked if he would like me to heat it up by putting it in the over or microwave. He said no, and I didn’t think anything of it……… until about 5 minutes later I heard the microwave ding and Jenny saying, “Did you really heat that up?”
Yes. Yes, he had. My gullible, 14 year old nephew thought I was serious, and running with the assumption that I know more about sushi than him, cooked the leftover sushi in the microwave. We all had a good laugh as he blushed.
Then he ate it.
Don’t worry. It was the kind of sushi that they deep fry a bit and then set on fire when they serve it. I wouldn’t have let him if it had been a completely raw roll. Or would I???
