Nebraskans love chili. And Nebraskans love cinnamon rolls to dip in that chili. Will Nebraskans love cinnamon rolls that have chili inside of them?
And no, this is not one of my crazy kitchen creations. Although, I wish I’d thought of it. UNL freshman Alexa Carter came up with the idea and is getting noticed for it. She basically makes cinnamon roll dough with the usual stuff, but adds chili meat peppers, onions, and other chili stuff except the juice. She rolls the up, cuts the rolls, tops them with cream cheese frosting, and bakes them. She’s even using an entrepreneurship program at UNL to turn this into a small business.
Of course, once you have a product that takes off, you need to create variations to keep people’s interest. So, here’s one Alexa; Chili Mac Cinnamon Rolls. Add elbow noodles to the chili stuff inside the cinnamon roll. Then, instead of frosting, cover the top in cheddar cheese. I think we can agree that it’s the inevitable evolution.
Chili- Mac Rolls, an Austin Michael Trademark. I might even try that this weekend and see if it’d make a good Super Bowl treat idea.
