Today’s “guy finds rare object worth lots of money at a garage sale and buys it for almost nothing” is in Massachusetts. There’s a twist. The woman selling them knew and didn’t care.
The guy’s name is Dario. He’s a collector who actively goes to yard sales in search of rare coins. He found what are known as Morgan dollars. They were the first standard silver dollars minted since the passing of the 1873 Coinage Act. There were four of them which Dario estimates are worth between $30 and $50 each.
The woman had worked at a bank and had collected a bunch of coins for her husband. Then they got divorced and she ended up with just the 4………. Which she had no desire to keep. She wanted $10 for all four. Dario felt bad and offered $20. She wouldn’t take it at first, but he finally talked her into taking more money for the valuable coins.
Dario says he plans on keeping them for his own collection.
