Junk from Space Station crashes house, craters floor. Vid and pics in blog.

Dangerous things that fall from the sky……… hail, parts from Boeing planes, and now pieces off the International Space Station. A chunk of metal blasted through a home’s roof and created a bit of a crater in the floor in Florida last month. NASA has confirmed that it came from the International Space Station. No biggee, right? It’s less than 2 pounds, 4 inches tall, and 1.5 inches wide………. That was travelling about 438 miles per hour. I based that on terminal velocity calculations.

It was a metal support mount that they had ejected in 2021, thinking it’d burn up in the atmosphere.

Instead, it floated around for 3 years with no one tracking it.

The hunk of space junk could have hit anywhere. If it had fallen back to Earth 5 seconds earlier, it could have landed in a swimming pool 3 houses away. If it were 15 minutes later, it could have been downtown Miami. Instead, a house where no one was home.

By the way, most homeowner policies do cover damage from meteors, asteroids, and space junk.
