Student Slashed With Knife During Fight At Lincoln High

By Tom Stanton Apr 25, 2024 | 3:20 PM

Two Lincoln High School students were injured during a fight just after noon on Thursday. LPD says the preliminary investigation determined the 14 and 15-year-old boys were fighting when the 14-year-old pulled out a knife and slashed the 15-year-old in his arms and chest with a large serrated knife.

Assistant Chief Jason Stille says a school administrator broke up the fight and the school resource officer provided first aid to the 14-year-old, who suffered a laceration to his hand.  “The 15-year-old ended up seeking treatment at an urgent care in the area.”  Stille says he suffered slash wounds to his arms and chest area.

Both students were transported to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries.   LPS Superintendent Dr. Paul Gausman said during a Thursday afternoon news conference that there were only a few students in the area where the fight happened and the school activated its Standard Response Protocol of Hold.

“A hold means that we hold students in their classrooms and out of the hallways while the staff members and police work to handle the situation.”  Gausman praised the staff for their response and the administrator who broke up the altercation.

Stille says the 14-year-old may be referred to juvenile court for second-degree assault and using a weapon to commit a felony.  Gausman says both students involved will face consequences with the school.

LPD is still putting all of the pieces of their investigation together.
