I saw lightning strike an erupting volcano this afternoon. Obviously not here. Although, once when I was in Kansas, I convinced a kid that there were volcanos in the flint hills. That’s another story.
I saw video from people standing at the bottom of Volcan de l Fuego in Guatemala. They were watching the eruption when a giant bolt of lightning struck where the lava was spewing out of. It’s unreal to think about the forces of nature that came together for that split second.
Imagine if this had happened a couple thousands of years ago when people made sacrifices to the angry volcano god. They’re getting ready to toss a in the usual virgin sacrifice when the lightning strikes. How mad do they think the gods are then? The head priest was like, “We’re going to need more virgins!” Then someone else said, “This is the last one we have. We’re not getting any more until next week when we raid that village to the north.” So they let their village burn because they didn’t have science…… or the brains to move.
