Lancaster County Sergeant Fired For Failing To Serve Arrest Warrants

By Chase Porter May 24, 2024 | 2:47 PM

The Lancaster County sergeant who was cited for failing to serve two arrest warrants in February was fired earlier this month, and now faces two misdemeanor charges.

On March 14th, Sheriff Terry Wagner said Sgt. Ryan Schmuecker failed to arrest two people with outstanding warrants for overdue fines.

“The sergeant released both people without arresting either one, instead, instructing them to show up and pay their fines,” Wagner said, adding would be a violation of state statute.

KLIN media partner 1011 Now reports, Schmuecker was charged with two counts of neglecting to serve a misdemeanor warrant on Wednesday.

Schmuecker, a 19-year veteran of the Lancaster County Sherriff’s Office, was placed on a 10-day suspension in the beginning of May. He appealed the decision, but was ultimately fired on May 10th.

If convicted, Schmuecker could face three months imprisonment and/or a $500 fine on each misdemeanor count. He is set to be arraigned on May 31st.

Schmuecker had served in multiple roles within the office and was serving as a shift supervisor of the Patrol Division at the time of the incident.
