How pet shelter ran out of dogs.

By Austin Michael May 28, 2024 | 6:55 PM

A friend, who knows I’m an animal lover and supporter of shelters, posted a news clip about a promotion that a shelter in Texas did that helped them get every single dog adopted. Here’s the jist.

They posted an opportunity for adults to take one of their dogs for a walk so it didn’t look like you were out walking alone or doing something not quite as adult, like playing Pokémon. Just pay the $5 “rental fee” and you’re off.

Apparently, they made so much money they were able to drop adoption fees. People would take pics while walking the dogs and shared on social media. That made other more interested in adoption. And so many people fell in love with the dogs that they’re all out and there is a waiting list.

Unfortunately, the story didn’t list a name for the shelter. So I dug into the internet to verify it and found………… lots of places in Texas let people walk their dogs. Unfortunately many of them are needing people to walk dogs because they don’t have enough staff.

I checked the Capital Humane Society’s website. I didn’t see anything about walking dogs, buuuuuut they do have a program where you can foster bottle baby kittens. They’re baby kittens that need someone to feed them, so you take a little course on how to do it with a bottle, then take care of them for a while. Also, the Read To A Shelter pet program which is good for the animals and helping kids get smarter. Kids ages 7 to 12 can read out loud to adoptable cats. Just like I do with guinea pigs. Except, I doubt the cats will try to eat the page you’re reading.
