Fingers crossed, airlines have never lost my luggage. But I saw a news article today that makes me want to only take carry on. A woman named Aunny was stuck at Dallas airport a few weeks ago because of a delayed flight. Then, when she finally got a flight, she was told her luggage was going to be delayed.
Luckily, she had put an Apple Air Tag inside of her luggage. See, she had been told, “Sure. Everything is good. Your luggage with be in LA when you get there. No problem.” It wasn’t. She got home and got the airline on the phone. They told her the luggage was at her house. It wasn’t. In fact, while they told her that, her tracker showed it miles away. The luggage had been delivered to a homeless camp where they’d already started going through her stuff and tossed a lot of it all over the ground. She had to pay a homeless man to get her stuff back. The airline said they’d reimburse her up to $1,600. She says she lost over $6k worth of stuff. Also, she saw other people’s luggage there as well. The airline released a statement yesterday with the usual, “We strive to ensure the best blah, blah, lip service.”
One airline still owes my wife $800 after canceling her flight and then saying they wouldn’t give us the money back after we told them rescheduling at a later date was pointless because it was too late.
