Lincoln Fire and Rescue crews extinguished a house fire within 15 minutes of receiving the call early Monday morning.
LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman says the call came in around 1:45 a.m. reporting a kitchen fire at a home near 70th and “O” Street.
Firefighters rushed to the scene by 1:50 a.m. and were confronted with smoke coming from the front door. Crews confirmed the fire under control and extinguished by 1:58 a.m.
Lierman said the fire was caused by a cooking mishap. The total cost of the damage to the home came in around $75,000.
Four people and two dogs were evacuated safely, and are receiving relocation assistance from the Red Cross. No LFR crew members were injured.
