Lincoln Man Loses $2,000 In Online Dating App Scam

By Tom Stanton Jul 29, 2024 | 11:37 AM

Lincoln Police say a 40-year-old man was blackmailed out of $2,000 on Friday morning.  Captain Todd Kocian says the man told them he was messaging a woman on a dating app.  “At some point he sent her some explicit photos.”

Kocian says she then threatened to post the photos online unless he sent her money. The man then transferred $2,000 to the woman through an online pay platform.  He urges people to be cautious about sending pictures to someone online.

“Once you send explicit photos to somebody via the internet those photos are out there and difficult to get them back,” Kocian says.  “And in this case, there’s nothing preventing the person from making further requests.”
