Sinkhole swallows woman; feared lost.

By Austin Michael Aug 23, 2024 | 7:55 PM

I heard many complaints about all the street closings on 84th, 56th, and other places around Lincoln. I understand that it’s inconvenient. Buuuut……….. we should probably be thankful that we have professionals making infrastructure stronger instead us falling into sink holes never to be seen again.

A woman visiting Malaysia was simply walking down a street when a 26 foot deep sink hole instantly opened up under her. She fell in, was swept away by water, and no one can find her now. A problem there was reported a year ago. They knew that there was deterioration under the street. They poked around and declared it fixed. Not so much.

So, before I head home today and get slowed down for an extra 8 or 9 minutes, I’m giving a big “Thank You” to the city of Lincoln and the hard workers keeping me from falling into an underground river and being swept away into some kind of underground King Kong world.

WARNING: This video shows the poor woman falling in at the 1:11 mark. If you don’t wish to see it, fast past that point by 10 seconds. No blood or anything, but I can see how it could be upsetting to see and realize what happened.
