Developers in New York are planning on building a new skyscraper that will go up, bend at the top, and then come back down. It’ll be like the arch in Saint Louis. Instead of shooting for the tallest building in the world, it’ll be the longest building in the world at 4,000 feet. It’s still going to be plenty tall. They’re calling it the Big Bend.
Several agencies, people, and even architectural magazines that don’t like the idea. They’re worried about environmental impacts. But the funniest complaint I read about is that some of the rich people who live in the area it’ll go will cast a shadow on Central Park. Maybe they’re worried their limos won’t get enough sunshine? I don’t know.
What I do know is that I will never set foot in it. My grandparents made me go in the Arch when I was 7 years old. They took me, the kid with a huge fear of heights, up to the top for maximum freaking out effect. So, you can see why giant horseshoe shaped buildings aren’t my cup of tea.
