I love this story on so many levels. Doug Turner, of Pennsylvania, has been inviting neighbors to his house for an annual party every year since 2022. He started doing it after his wife passed away. Every year, Doug goes door to door, up and down the block, delivering hand written invitations. Everyone is welcome. He provides all the snacks, drinks, and everything else. The invitations mention partying until four pm or when the cops arrive.
I should mention that Doug is 87 years old.
These aren’t crazy frat parties. Doug is taking the opportunity to bring his community together, meet each other, and become better friends with their neighbors. He said, “I’m going to get these people in one room, and maybe they’ll get to know each other.”
Doug also said that he’s pretty sure that making friends and keeping up with old ones is what has kept him alive for so long.
