Here’s a positive life story I just wanted to share. It’s about James Harrison from Australia who recently passed away. But before he died, James donated so much blood that it saved the lives of 2.4 million babies. Yes, I said 2.4 MILLION babies.
This, even though he was afraid of needles to begin with!
James started donating in in 1954 when he was 18. And he kept coming back as often as possible because he had special blood that contained a rare antibody. It was used to create a drug that help protect babies in the womb. Sometimes the mother’s antibodies will attack the baby and that leads to hemolytic disease when they’re born. It’s an issue that can be fatal. James’s blood saved 2.4 million of those babies.
James donated blood 1,173 times. It helped create more than 3 million doses of the medication. He passed away just a few weeks ago at the age of 88.
