Sharing your Netflix password appears to be actually illegal now. A couple of weeks ago, The Intellectual Property Office revised their guidelines. They now say, “accessing films, tv series or live sports events through Kodi boxes, hacked Fire Sticks or apps without paying a subscription is an infringement of copyright and you may be committing a crime.”
It pretty much carries about as much weight as those warnings on the beginning of VHS tapes. But, it’s in writing now and if Netflix or any other subscription service were so inclined, they could sue you. It’d probably be more effective for the streaming companies to produce PSAs that say something like, “Every time you use someone else’s password, one of Roku’s highly paid employees is forced to miss his morning mocha latte.” They could do it like one of those old Sally Fields spots and show movie stars crying because they had to drink $20 rye instead of champagne.
By the way, I have a friend who works for Roku in California. He makes more figures than I have fingers. That jab is meant for him.
