A movie based on a book written by a former UNL professor will be filming in Nebraska soon. The film is called “I Am A Man”. It’s about Chief Standing Bear and his fight in court to establish the rights of Native Americans. IMDB has this as the summary -Set in Nebraska in 1879, the film will tell the dramatic and inspirational story of Ponca Chief Standing Bear, who, after experiencing decades of maltreatment and disenfranchisement, successfully argued in U.S. District Court in Omaha that Native Americans are “persons within the meaning of the law”, thus becoming the first Native American judicially granted civil rights under American law.
I haven’t been able to find out when or where they’ll be filming. But, I’ll try to get ahold of someone involved and get more info about this.
